He finished off well enough though in fifth, beaten 2.09L. Eventually he had to come to the outside of Kalino passing the 200m to find clear galloping room, but was left with too much to do by that stage. He was down on the rail turning for home and Reece Jones tried to find a run on several occasions early in the straight, but none were forthcoming. He still looked a winning chance at the 200m as he hit top gear, but wasn't quite able to finish the race off.Ĭopped a bump shortly after the start and became unbalanced before settling towards the tail of the field. He then struck the heels of a runner near the 700m and blundered badly, which saw him drop further back on the turn. Kalino began pretty well and looked set to settle handy, but with the pace strong, Kalino settled just worse than midfield.
It was a big effort to finish just 1.55L off Pizarro given how the race panned out. When she did get in the clear she displayed her talent, but had too much work to do to run down Troach, falling short by 1.36L.Ī dominant display from Troach at double figures. The inside draw turned out to be a negative for her, with Kerrin McEvoy having nowhere to go for the first half of the straight. The fast finishing Molly Nails kicks of proceedings at with in the saddle. Winner Molly Nails was the beneficiary of Iconic Dame's tough run, parking on her back and taking her into the race. Given the run she was entitled to weaken, but stuck on boldly to be beaten just 2L. She also copped a bumped near the 800m which took her even wider. Jumped from barrier 15 of 15 and was never able to get on the track. The filly was beaten by the draw and I'd certainly be sticking with her.
Here's our take on some of the more well-fancied gallopers that went under at The Valley and Rosehill on Saturday, July 30.
